Day 126: Cortez the Killer (4/11/2012)

Standard: Standard: 7.7.7 Explain how and where each empire arose and how the Aztec and Incan empires were defeated by the Spanish.

Aim: The historians of 2017 will demonstrate mastery of the rise of the Aztec empire on today's Aztec quiz.

1. Quick Question: Look through the lyrics to the song Cortez the Killer by Neil Young.  How does Neil Young feel back Cortez? Why might he feel this way?  If you want to listen to the song being performed, you can listen to it here.

2. Continuing from yesterday's assignment, read through the next two sections (4 and 5) describing Cortez' conquest of the Aztecs and create the first two of your presentation.  You should have one detailed slide for each of the sections.

Make sure your presentation is correctly embedded in your history portfolio. Here is the video showing you how to do that.


3. Watch part two of the fall of the Aztecs.  It is important to watch these segments to help you visualize what life was like and the experiences of Aztecs during the invasion of the Spanish conquistadors.

4. Go back to the gradebook and make sure you have everything turned in.  If you're going to turn in a missing assignment, make sure you fill out the missing/late work form to get full credit.

5. We will take the weekly quiz on the Aztecs based on last week's readings. Here is a link to the readings if you want to review. Remember, those that earn an A on the test will have Pandora privileges next week!
