Day 130 Fall of Tenochtitlan (4/16/2012)

Standard: 7.7.3. Explain how and where each empire arose and how the Aztec and Incan empires were defeated by the Spanish.

Aim: The historians of 2017 will be able to analyze the fall of the Aztec capital and create a cause chart illustrating why Tenochtitlan fell and its impact on history.

1. Place your homework on your desk.  Make sure your name is written on the paper. I will send someone around to collect it.

2. Make a copy of this text and complete the activity.

3. We are going to review the fall of the Aztecs and Cortez' conquest of Tenochtitlan by watching a few minutes of this clip.

4. Add slides for sections 6 and 7 to your presentations.  Track Mr. Sanders carefully during his review of the events to make sure you are understanding the events and all the important people involved.

5.  What could the Aztecs have done different to prevent the eventual collapse of their great city? What changes would you recommend? Feel free to be imaginative and creative with your responses.

6.  Make a copy of the cause and effect chart here.  As a group discuss the causes and effects of the fall of the Aztec empire. Add one cause and one effect to the chart and embed it in your portfolio.  This will be due on Wednesday.

Homework:  Create a new tumblr post where you describe how the fall of the Aztec empire effected the history of Mexico. This post should include a lot of your opinion and personal interpretation.

For those that don't have access to a computer, you can write the Tumblr post on paper and add it to your Tumblr in the morning.
